Welcome to SAAMS.

The South African Association for Mass Spectrometry is the mass spectrometry subdivision of the South African Chemical Institute.  As a (non-profit) organization functions of SAAMS include to coordinate mass spectrometry in Southern Africa and to create and maintain an official body for the mass spectrometry technique interest and application group.  SAAMS mediates the presentation of research and development in mass spectrometry, new developments and new instrumentation in mass spectrometry are introduced to the group and users and instrument suppliers are brought together.  The SAAMS target group is wide, from students, novel and inexperienced mass spectrometrists to experienced academics and industry based scientists. There are special sub sections within the association for interest groups such as proteomics and inorganic mass spectrometry. Membership is open to other countries, and is especially invited from within the African region. SAAMS provides for the advertisement of instrumentation and related consumables, and for job opportunities. Joining SAAMS and being placed on the SAAMS mailing list is as simple as completing and submitting the application form which is available on the website.

Every two years SAAMS teams with the chromatographical division of SACI (ChromSA) and some other subdivisions of SACI to host either ChromSAAMS or Analitika symposia.  These symposia feature invited overseas speakers and other presenters, which could be local or overseas, from a variety of mass spectrometry application fields. Mass spectrometry courses or training are often offered concurrently to these conferences.

SAAMS is an affiliate member of the International Mass Spectrometric Foundation (IMSF).
